The vision ended, but he kept staring at the window. He pushed the thoughts away and focused on the class details. It wasn't the time nor the place to deal with his past. Failed Hero — Rare. A class born from the collapse of ideals. You once pursued the path of a hero, but your actions have diverged from it. The desire to save others remains, but you no longer believe yourself to be a hero.
[Class Additional Attribute Points:] Strength: +2 Agility: +1 Endurance: +2 Intelligence: +1 Constitution: +2 Attribute Points: +1 It took him a few moments to go through everything the class had to offer before dismissing it. It was a great class, even better than Jack of All Trades. But it wasn't meant for a mage. It was meant for a swordsman. The failed part stung, but he ignored that as well. The experience opened old wounds he had never healed, nor wanted to.
His time in this world, the people he had met, had kept him occupied enough not to think about them. But now, everything returned to him twofold. He took a few deep breaths before he glanced at the next class, the blessing offered. Calamity Archmage — Unique. Calamity Archmage is a unique class tailored specifically for the user. [Evaluation] [A mundane child from an unremarkable village yearned to see the wider world beyond it. Through travelers from distant lands, he heard stories of legendary heroes who stood against calamity and left their mark on the world. His wish came true on the day the village celebrated, when he met heroes like those he had only heard of in stories told by travelers and wandering merchants. They slew the wyvern that had plagued the village and taken his friend. Witnessing their battle against the fiend amid the flames, the first spark of what a hero should be took root in him. Throughout the years, those ideals took root and grew. In time, he came to be known as the Radiant Mage. A name he was proud to carry, one that let him bury the failure of his first trial. Born from hardship and grief, shaped by overwhelming strength. From rising as the youngest Archmage in the history of Svetorod, to creating a spell that defied the divine and earned the ire of the gods. From a dream of becoming a hero—ready to impose his ideals upon the world—to a failed hero who betrayed them. A life of suffering and betrayal, from being a weapon wielded by others to becoming the weapon that ended their reign. The dream reignited when the hero, Lucien Illucis, asked him to join his party and stand against the tyranny of gods. But it shattered once more. He was nothing but a pawn from beginning to end in the game the gods played. In the end, the hero he once dreamed of becoming was gone, replaced by the very calamity he once sought to protect others from.] [Remark: Leave the past where it belongs. What remains is what you choose to become. Find the ideals you once stood for.] Adolin stared at the remark from the blessing for a while. Thoughts churned in his mind. Illusion. He cast the spell, weaving an illusion that would present the same image to Clay. He wasn't sure if it was necessary, but the spell came up anyway. He stood unmoving for some time. His mind was a mess. The grief and the pain were normal for him; he'd adapted to them a long time ago.
What was bothering him was whether he had stumbled into another game of beings he couldn't, and didn't want to understand. The blessing knew all about his past, and it had reminded him of it. And the beings that had caused all of the pain and hardship he went through. This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it. And the remark. Did the goddess send that remark? Why? The questions kept piling up, but no answers came. Did it even matter? It didn't.
Even if the gods of this world were playing games, he would refuse to participate and live the life he wanted. He had been given a second chance. A chance, he would have refused if he'd been given the choice. But that didn't mean he should waste it.
"The ideals he once stood for," he muttered. To find the ideals he once stood for. That wouldn't be a bad path to take. He felt a lump forming in his throat, but he swallowed it. If anything, his party would do the same. Recover the ideals they had stood for at the beginning of the Hero's party. The principles they all shared. All of them were from different backgrounds, upbringings, and life experiences. The lives of everyone in his party were filled with hardship.
Lucien had found them and brought them together because of what they had in common. And when they met again, it would be just like the start of their journey. The first journey, the one that truly mattered. He felt a smile forming, and he let it. The one that reignited his dream of becoming a true hero. And this time, he wouldn't let it fracture. He glanced at the class again and felt that he could experience the choices that had led to its creation, but he decided not to.
If he were to start anew, there was no reason to relive what had led to his downfall. He ignored the class, but glanced at the attribute points it offered. [Class Additional Attribute Points:] Strength: +1 Agility: +1 Endurance: +2 Intelligence: +4 Constitution: +2 Attribute Points: +2 He grimaced at that. It was a truly powerful class. Convenience Mage — Unique.
"Convenience mage," he muttered. That was the name of the last class he had been offered. It was also a unique class, like Calamity Archmage. Convenience Mage is a unique class tailored specifically for the user. He didn't read anything and focused on the class. He found himself leaving the alley where he had first woken up in this world. The first man he had met and healed. Then the scene changed. Now he was walking through the streets of the Academy district.
He saw himself admiring the gardens, the scene speeding up until he reached the boy. He watched himself cast the mana construct. The dragon. How it flew around the boy. He saw the smile on the boy's face and heard his words again.
"It's real! It's actually real!"
"I'm gonna be just like that!" The scene changed again. He found himself watching Lissandra make the most delicious tea he had ever had, and felt the urge to learn the spell. The scenes kept changing. Every scene was from the short time he spent in this world. Then he saw himself grumbling, on different occasions, about the storage spell everyone was using. Then it ended. [Evaluation] A broken and lost soul found its way to the world of Lumenor with the help of the philosopher's stone.
It carried a burden heavier than it should have been able to bear. Through its short journey in this world, it found love for convenient spells. Spells that made life easier, and it came to the realization that it shouldn't waste the second chance it had been given. [Remark: There is nothing more convenient than a second chance. Do not waste it.] [Additional Remark: The inventory skill will become available upon class selection. Physical interaction with a bag will no longer be necessary.] Well, he did agree with the remark. His second chance was proving more convenient by the moment. After choosing a class, he would finally be able to store his gear. His smile widened even more. But something still felt off. He reread the remark, then the additional remark.
"Physical interaction with a bag will no longer be necessary." Was this a joke? Was the blessing messing with him? He shook his head and focused on the additional attributes. [Class Additional Attribute Points:] Strength: +1 Agility: +1 Endurance: +1 Intelligence: +5 Constitution: +1 Attribute Points: +1 Well, the additional attribute points were indeed convenient. Just as his strategy for using them. Dumping everything in Intelligence.
It offered two fewer points than the Calamity Class, and it gave one more point than the Failed Hero class. The choice was quite convenient. He chuckled. He went over the available choices again. Jack of all Trades — Rare. Wanderer — Uncommon. Hero — Rare. He stopped there. The name of the class, Failed Hero, had changed. Did that mean he had a change of heart? Well, he did. He had decided to find the ideals he once stood for. And the blessing had listened. Or was it because he had a bit of faith in himself?
That this time, it would be different, and he wouldn't betray his ideals. He shrugged and chose Convenience Mage. Nothing happened when he chose it, except for a feeling that if he wanted to store the staff, all he needed to do was think about it. The staff in his hand vanished. Then it reappeared, before disappearing again. A grin spread across his face as the bag vanished from his shoulders.
