The process to theft was simple: always strike when one is either busy with something else, or their guard is completely down. Heavenly Fleet's situation was the former. Like the Green Ghost Fleet, they too were far too busy dealing with the absurd horde of zombies they'd intentionally pulled. It was crazy, Nyx felt almost dazed as he saw enhanced wolf zombies arrive by the hundreds. They appeared far more tattered than their normal counterparts.
Their tendons flailed as they ran, their tongues were half rotted out, and half of them lacked a proper set of eyes. And yet, their strikes were times more deadly than the normal ones. Each strike could easily fling open the sandbags, and each attack that cut into a frontliner's flesh made their wounds impossible to heal. Their medical area was in uproar as frontline cold-weapon users who came in injured for treatment were being told to get back to fighting instead.
Because the medics were still figuring out how to deal with this accursed black misty substance that came attached to any wound inflicted by the enhanced wolves' claws. Nyx was getting most of his information from their customized chat. And the Heavenly Fleet's situation was actually worsening rapidly. Because another type of zombie had joined the fray. The Fat Zombies. These looked like one of those extremely obese people often shown in documentaries, who couldn't move without being carried in wheelchairs.
"Except that these ones run like fiends." There were approximately one hundred of them on the field, with twenty-three already shot dead. The others ran across the field rapidly, their green, fatty bellies rippling with each movement. The barrage of machine-gun fire cracked apart the surface of their bellies, only for yellow liquid to seep out in droplets instead of blood and viscera. The twenty-three they'd killed were mainly dispatched through the Captain of the Heavenly Fleet's unique skill.
Intermittently, he'd stand up, form his right hand into a finger gun like he used to as a child. Except that when this guy pointed the muzzle of it (his finger) at a Fat Zombie, several white flashes would explode around the zombie's body, and in an instant the zombie's head, arms, and legs would be severed.
"It's a good thing he needs to rest in between uses, otherwise that's one broken ability." But despite all that, nothing seemed to be improving for them.
"They simply called in a boatload of zombies and now they don't know what to do with them…" It was one good lesson in greed, he supposed. But he was thoroughly enjoying the jingling sound of notifications hitting his ears. [Acquire Gold 0. 5, Universal Bullets x50] [Acquire Gold 0. 5, Universal Bullets x30] [Acquire Gold 0. 5, Iron Plates x2] [Acquire Gold 0. 5, Universal Bullets x30] For now, the amount he'd collected from their relentless barrage over the horde had already surpassed five hundred!
And those enhanced wolves all seemed to yield one whole gold per kill plus a good chunk of bullets. He'd already recouped his investment, from having to give Julius a discount. Beyond that, the chat was also abuzz with calls for their vice captain, Vincent, who was still fast asleep beside Nyx. They apparently needed the guy to help handle the zombie hordes, though Nyx wasn't sure how he could manage that. The guy hadn't shown a single offensive ability of any kind when dealing with the decoy.
"Though, they did call him the God-Eyed Vincent, So maybe his ability's related to vision?" Nyx really felt like taking the guy somewhere quiet, binding his hands and feet, and just torturing the information out of him once he woke up. But he wasn't about to do unnecessary things just for the sake of it. He could easily get the information from the Arcane Archivist later anyway. Right now, he had enough money to buy any and all the exclusive information he could provide.
He was doing a lot of evils to get a leg up over everyone else, yes, but that didn't he was about to turn himself to into a torture from a mare thief. Putting that aside, he refocused on the scene below. He'd also learned the Captain's name, as he'd suspected. The guy was pure Chinese; his name was Shuai. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
He again stood up from the safety of his Humvee, formed his fist into the shape of a gun, and aimed it at one of the flesh-ball zombies that had gotten too close and was about to slam into the frontline. He whispered "bang" (Nyx assumed it was a bang). And like before, the flesh-ball zombie (official system given name of the fat zombies) was engulfed in intense white light, and as the light receded, the zombie limped forward in pieces, chopped up like butter cubes.
He pointed his finger at another zombie, fired, and that one met a similar fate to its brethren. He repeated the action three more times before climbing back inside his vehicle. From the looks of it, the vehicle had already advanced to Tier Three. It was nearly six times the size of his previous Humvee, with a greyed-out paint job and nearly ten auto-cannons mounted over the roof. It was a massively enhanced personnel carrier, easily capable of surpassing a coach bus in carrying capacity.
But it wasn't a fully offensive vehicle like Julius's. Which was the issue. The night wore on, and Nyx kept watch, making sure to blink as little as humanly possible. Because every time he blinked, the effects of Usurper were interrupted and he missed out on some cash. To keep himself from going crazy from having to focus on the battlefield, he retrieved a single healing spirit stone from his inventory and began to absorb its energies.
He'd gotten a good enough handle on his spiritual energy that he no longer needed to close his eyes to form the absorption tunnel. But he couldn't keep this up forever, because the tranquilizer he'd shot them with could only keep them asleep for six hours, of which four had already passed. He still planned on taking every penny he could. So he continued his observation. The Captain's intermittent attacks eventually took out all of the flesh-ball zombies, as fewer and fewer emerged from the Blood Mist.
Half an hour later, the Blood Mist itself began to slowly thin out. The arrival of zombies also grew sparser, and the customized chats grew quieter. The moment Nyx saw Captain Shuai emerge from his Humvee and quietly enter the medical area, followed by calling in a few cold-weapon users from the frontlines, alarm bells rang in Nyx's head. He immediately stood up and boarded his vehicle. The instant he did, he heard several other vehicle engines roaring into gear.
"Shit, they're coming." They'd certainly earned enough leeway now to check their own backside. He quickly steered his vehicle and drove off, while simultaneously checking their customized chat. Regional Chat [Did you hear that? It's the sound of another car's engine!] [Yeah, quickly get your vehicle in full gear, we must catch this bastard.] [We've been the ones risking our lives all night, and he's been out here fucking taxing our efforts like the government, for free.] [I swear I'll skin him alive once I get my hands on him!] [What vehicle is he using?! It's so fast.] [I'm the closest to his vehicle, and it looks like an Armoured Racer.] [No wonder, isn't that the advancement of that useless starter vehicle, the E-Bike? To think he's been looting people off that thing…] [Engaging the target, engaging the target, machine guns fired: full barrage!] [Yeah, get him! Just make sure not to kill him, it'd be best if we can just capture him.] [@CaptainShuai don't bother with that, if you can't capture him, it's best to remove such an individual before he becomes troublesome. I'll be taking care of Vincent, he seems to have been shot with a tranquilizer…] [@ViceCaptain Ugh, my head hurts] [Yo, the Vice Captain, you're okay!] [Report: the machine-gun bullets are all bouncing off his vehicle's outer armour. We'll need anti-materiel weapons assistance.] [Wait, I'm sending one over.] [@ViceCaptain he got us right at the beginning of our engagement with the zombie hordes. This is the last chance we're gonna get at catching him weak. Catch him at any cost.]
"Hey hey, hey. I spared your life and this is how you're paying me?" Nyx felt an ache in his heart at the blatant betrayal.
"Should I use the materials now?" He'd gotten the nude photos of the vice captain for situations exactly like this. But he thought it over carefully. Sharp bursts of bullets penetrated his vehicle's rear armour. They were mostly targeting the car's tires, not his head—not yet. He didn't want to use the material now and risk attracting more of their fury than necessary. Not when he already had a Plan B in store. He brought up the vehicle's upgrade panel and tapped on the engine compartment.
Two upgrade options appeared: one named [Flaring Engine], the other [Sonic Engine]. Based on the descriptions, each one's specialty was clear—one for sustained speed, the other for burst speed. Naturally, they each required an engine core. The cost for the upgrade was nearly a hundred gold. Nyx just smiled, because he was rich after looting the Heavenly Fleet for nearly the whole night.
Outside, the first rays of sunlight were already peeking through the clouds as the mist grew ever thinner, finally making it possible for him to drive the vehicle at high speed. He eyed his collection of gold. [Gold x1237] He sold off his entire inventory for more gold, keeping only the spirit stones, universal bullets and some special items, pushing his total past the 1. 5k mark!
Then he bought the necessary parts for the engine upgrade from the marketplace, and finally pressed the upgrade button for the [Sonic Engine]. Within seconds, his speedometer changed. It now showed a top speed of 300 km/h! He twisted the throttle to full as his vehicle's engine roared like a fiend, cutting through the blood-soaked grass and corpses, its silhouette vanishing into the distance.
