As a jolt of energy surged into his body, Yang's back practically arched off the bed. It felt like a purer form of energy flooding into his body and Sea of Consciousness, unlike anything he had experienced before clean, almost crystalline in a way. The sensation was unlike anything he had felt before. Past experience had taught him that taking too much of any kind of energy in a short amount of time came with sheer agony. There was a reason cultivation was meant to be a slow, steady process.
The wild abandon with which Yang had been absorbing so many beast and demonic cores, including that evil statue's corrupting miasma, was practically suicidal. At his current cultivation level, he should have been dead ten times over. The only reason Yang was alive and sane was because of the bead's existence. It was the bead that had been refining and taking in more than ninety-nine percent of the energy he had taken in so far.
Yang was only the conduit, and even that came with extreme pain, more often than not causing him to lose consciousness. But now as he felt the powerful energy surge inside him, he felt no pain. Instead, after the initial shock and the discomfort, a wave of refreshing, cool, and soothing sensation washed over him. The sudden influx of this energy also helped restore his mind to full clarity, allowing him to take account of the host body he now inhabited.
As he inwardly looked through himself, he detected that the energy wasn't actually being absorbed by his body. His perception allowed him to recognize that this body had no special cultivation channels like meridians; rather, the energy was being run through his arteries, veins, and capillaries and extending into the surrounding tissue. He actually felt scrapes and bruises heal quickly as the energy extended into every part. The ache in his body was relieved, as was the burning in his throat and nasal passage.
With no meridians for the energy to travel through, there was also a lack of dantian to store the energy in. He felt much of it seeping out before the bead in its perpetual hunger reached out and absorbed it. It was a drop in the ocean compared to what the bead had recently consumed, but it refused to even let that escape. Yang watched as the healer's now electric blue eyes widened in surprise as the energy was absorbed. Apparently, it was not the thing to do, judging by the expression on his face.
Though he didn't say anything, just pushed another wave of energy into him. Yang silently urged the bead to stop, but it ignored him, consuming the second wave even faster, not even allowing it to circle his body, now that there was nothing left to heal. Intrigued by the phenomenon, the man pushed a third, far larger burst of energy into him, more than double his previous attempts combined.
Yang felt the familiar pull of absorption and immediately shifted his awareness to his Sea of Consciousness, curious to see the bead work with a different type of energy. He observed as the bright blue energy was drawn immediately by the golden webbing and sensed that the bead preferred this to the ones it got from the demonic cores or evil statues, making him wonder about the possibilities if he could learn to absorb the local energy of this world.
It would go a long way in helping the bead recover, maybe even make it stronger than it was before. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work. He had to think of every avenue to gather energy. Who knows how much energy the bead will need to recover fully. Wary of being rattled back to awareness, he quickly looked deeper into the bud and finally glimpsed the information he had missed in his last venture here. [0. 000001% Energy] There were a few more zeroes than last time, but Yang didn't worry as he watched in real time as the number steadily climbed up. [0. 000005% Energy] Satisfied, he let himself resurface from his Sea of Consciousness and noticed that the man was now all but pouring energy into him at a steady, unrelenting pace. The moment he saw Yang's eyes open, he stopped, removing his hand from Yang's chest, his eyes going back to the original brown.
"Nahar," he said, his voice laced with concern.
"Are you feeling better now?" Yang opened his mouth, hoping the right words in the correct language would come out.
"I am okay," Yang assured him, keeping it brief. The man studied him with a penetrating gaze.
"You are not acting like yourself," he said bluntly before his tone softened.
"Raya said you fell and hit your head in the Sivlar trying to wield water. You know she was terrified that she may have harmed you while trying to close your injuries." He man shook his head before his tone turned scolding.
"You know you are too young to have woken your spirit. You have no place entering the Sivlar." Yang remained quiet, taking everything in. He was getting some idea of this world's power system. Apparently he, or rather the kid Nahar, tried to wield water, whatever that meant, and fell to his death in the process, leaving Yang to take his place. He was also apparently too young to have woken his spirit, whatever they meant by that in this world.
Yang saw the man's worry deepen at Yang's continued silence and lack of response. Yang also wanted to know how to act, but he had just entered the body and had no memories to go on. He clearly was not going to be lucky enough to transmigrate into a hermit every time. And then the next words out of the man's mouth nearly sent his soul flying.
"Who are you?" Yang stared wide-eyed, horrified to have been discovered so easily and quickly, but his worry was soon eased by the following question.
"Do you know where you are? Who I am?" Yang, grabbing the lifeline offered with both hands, shook his head. The man looked taken aback by his answer and firmly grabbed his hand.
"What is the last thing you remember, child?"
"I only remember waking up on the riverbank," Yang stated clearly, deciding against acting like a scared child. He hoped his silence and change in personality would pass under the umbrella of his memory loss; he didn't have it in him to play at being a child for years. Unlike his rebirth in the cultivation world, where despite having some of his memories, he felt mentally like a child, here he was in his full adult mental faculties, only lacking a body to match.
The man gave him a comforting smile as he patted his head and rose to cover him with a blanket.
"It's okay. I'll take care of it." Yang could see the worry in the man's eyes clear as day as he stepped to the door and spoke quietly to someone outside before coming back to sit beside him. He ran his fingers through Yang's hair, untangling the matted knots leftover from Nahar's last dip in the river, leaving Yang to wonder about the relation between them.
Yang was relaxing under the tender attentions of the healer when he heard a commotion outside and quickly turned his gaze to the door just as it swung open and a tall, elegant woman in blue robes entered the room. She had long, knee-length brown hair, decorated with small braids and deep laugh lines around her mouth and the corner of her eyes suggesting a life filled with many opportunities to smile.
She looked at him with warmth as she got closer and took a seat on Yang's other side, placing her hand across his body near his right shoulder as she peered down into his eyes. She raised her hand to caress his hair before placing it flat on the center of his chest. Yang, now aware of the drill, braced himself as he felt the familiar wave of energy crash into him as he watched the woman's warm brown eyes turn a vibrant electric blue and felt the bead ravenously reach out to consume the treat.
