Chương 160: Life Realm Energy Comprehension

The moment my spiritual sense made contact with the crystal, reality broke apart around me, and not in a poetic way, but everything around me literally shattered into crystalline fragments. Each one of those shards was carrying a different scene, a different piece of understanding, and all of them were trying to pour themselves into my mind at exactly the same time.
"Master!" Azure's voice cut straight through the chaos.
"Let me filter it!" I handed control over immediately. I felt his presence expand outward to wrap around the entire flood of incoming information and compress it into something that wasn't going to destroy me but become something that I could actually follow. The first vision arrived like cold water thrown in my face.
I was standing in what seemed to be the earliest days of the Starhaven Realm, though standing isn't quite the right word for it, my consciousness was spread across a vast emptiness that somehow still contained the feeling of potential waiting to be used. The realm was completely barren, but I could feel the currents of possibility running through it, and understanding came flooding in.
I could see how life realm energy could be used to kindle the first sparks of existence in an empty place, how it could pull complexity out of simplicity, pull order out of chaos. When the first lifeforms formed, they were almost embarrassingly simple, barely more than self-replicating patterns in the energy field, but they were alive.
I watched them multiply and divide and slowly begin to differentiate, some developing the ability to absorb energy more efficiently and others learning to move through the proto matter that would eventually become soil and stone. The scene changed and now I was watching the next stage. The simple lifeforms had already prepared the ground. Now with that foundation in place, I could see the development of plants and animals.
The process was like conducting an impossibly complex arrangement where every single piece had to fit with every other piece perfectly, or the whole thing would collapse. If it was too aggressive, the species would destroy everything around it, and if it was too passive, it would be consumed before it could establish itself. The first true plants spread across the barren landscape and transformed it. The basic animals followed, those who survived fit the system that was already built.
Seeing all of this made me understand why the Celestial Sovereign had commanded the kind of respect that had outlasted his own existence, this was more than power, this was godhood. The vision shifted again and this time the resonance went deeper. The realm had developed enough to support something more complex than mindless animals. It was time for the first truly sentient beings.
This was where everything became more difficult because physical forms followed patterns and responded to balance and stability, but consciousness was something else entirely and required something that bordered on impossible. I watched the first proto sentient emerge into the world, it wasn't human or even close to human, it was more like someone had taken the core raw components of awareness, curiosity and fear and desire and will, and given them a physical shape to inhabit. It was strange but fascinating to watch as it moved through its environment making decisions that went beyond pure instinct, learning, adapting and choosing. The scene shifted one final time, and I felt my spiritual sense sharpen.
This was the last step, the creation of the first actual human in the Starhaven Realm, and everything before this had been preparation for this moment. The process started similarly to the proto-sentient but almost immediately became more complex. Physical form, energy circulation and mental capacity, they all had to be balanced against each other without any room for error because one mistake and you would end up with something that looked right from the outside but was hollow where it mattered.
I watched the figure take shape. First the physical form, then the energy systems, the meridians and dantian, and all the structures that cultivation would eventually move through. The most delicate part was the soul, which was coaxed into existence. I was just beginning to follow the real intricacies of that last process when everything snapped back, and I was floating in the crystalline space again with Astralis standing across from me. The expression on his face was worth the entire experience on its own.
His eyes were wide and the stars in his hair were twinkling in total confused disbelief.
"You're not dead," he said, he sounded both disappointed and reluctantly impressed by it.
"Should I be?" I asked. He turned his head just slightly and whispered: "But the plan to overwhelm your consciousness with the life realm comprehension was perfect, you should be brain dead by now!" I couldn't help but smile at that.
"Sorry to disappoint." The stars in his hair flickered rapidly like they were trying to process an unexpected result, and then his eyes narrowed and I could see him actually thinking it through.
"That amount of comprehension should have destroyed any Qi Condensation cultivator's mind completely unless..." He looked at me more carefully.
"You had help." I just smiled and didn't explain anything. There was no reason to tell him about Azure's role in filtering all of it, let him work with the uncertainty.
"I believe it's time for me to complete my side of the arrangement," I said. Astralis was still watching me with that mixture of calculation and confusion, the stars in his hair settled into a pattern that reminded me of someone doing complicated arithmetic they hadn't expected to need.
"The three trees," I said, when he seemed to drift too far into his own thoughts.
"Right, yes," he said, pulling himself back, and waved his hand and the crystalline space shifted to show three enormous trees spread across different parts of the realm. One I already recognized immediately, the Ancestor's Tree at the Three-Leaf Clover Sect.
The other two were just as impressive in completely different ways, the second stood on a mountain peak with its branches actually catching and holding starlight, and the third grew from the center of a vast lake with its roots going down into the water so deep you couldn't see where they ended.
"These are the Realm Stabilizing Trees," Astralis explained, though part of his attention was clearly still on trying to figure out how I had survived.
"Each one maintains a different aspect of the realm's fundamental structure. The Ancestor's Tree manages the flow and distribution of rouqi throughout the realm, the Star-Catching Tree maintains our connection to the heavens, and the Deep Root Tree stabilizes the physical laws that everything else depends on." I studied each of them through the crystal images.
"And all three need life realm energy."
"Yes," he said, "though each one can only absorb a certain amount at a time. Feeding them too much too quickly would be problematic."
"How problematic exactly?"
"The sudden influx of power might cause them to try growing too quickly and tear the reality around them apart."
"Ah, that kind of problematic," I said.
"But I can help regulate the flow!" he added quickly, and for once he actually sounded like he meant the reassurance rather than hoping for an entertaining disaster.
"Just please try not to overwhelm them. I really do not want to have to reconstruct another continent." I decided not to ask about the word another. Some histories were probably better left where they were.
"Shall we begin then?" I asked.
