Elias whipped his head back and forth in confusion before realizing that the glowing dot was not some kind of emerald firefly, but rather some kind of artifact in his vision like a piece of dust caught in the fluid on the surface of his cornea, but as if they were stationary. Huh, was that always there? It's faint enough I could have missed it in the daylight.

At this realization Eli stopped his shaking and focused his attention, trying to discern if there were any features to the artifact other than a pale green dot. As his thoughts shifted in the motes direction, Elias's eyes grew wide until he felt the resembled dinner plates as his world dissolved in a barrage of text that filled his vision with a cacophonous clamor as enough bell chimes to fill a dozen cathedrals drowned out his hearing.

As he slowly came to terms with the bizarre experience, looking past the horde of small translucent squares covering his vision he realized could still see the forest in the background as the pain in his head receded as the ringing passed. Waving his hand through the boxes he realized they were incorporeal images in his mind and not physically summoned panes of glass despite the startling fidelity of the image.

A little trial and error showed that while the boxes did not respond to physical touch they did respond to his will, and he was able to freely shift them around in his vision, close, and after a bit of panic, reopen the windows. After spending some time chuckling under his breath and flipping back and forth in wonder at the otherworldly experience, Elias got himself under control and began trying to corral the images into some sense of order.

Ultimately he was able to compile them into a single window as a sort of message history he could scroll through before winding it all the way back to the beginning and reading the notices in order. Well that explains the ringing in my head when I woke up, I guess there is a chime with each notice. Eli furrowed his brow at the first error message, and then arched it at the administrator override, as he kept scrolling his brows arched nearly up to his hairline in disbelief at what he was reading.

Reincarnation isn't super surprising, I figured it had to be some kind of wild fantastical event. A Divine contract, Deity tier entity, travelling through the void? What the hell happened to me?!? Elias wracked his brain trying to remember anything between that final jog and waking up in a puddle, at first all he felt was a faint glimmer of a memory before a pain began to build in his mind.

Doubling down he tried to force his way through the resistance he could feel through sheer force of will, but all he received for his efforts was a blinding headache. Elias winced as he backed off with a defeated sigh, tapping his head against the trunk behind him in frustration, wiping the sweat of his exertions from his brow with his sleeve. A gentle cool breeze blew upwards from the forest below full of the scents of life, green moss, moist earth, wildflowers, and the cool mist of a mountain spring.

As the soft gust of air whirled around him in an eddy before continuing eastwards up to the mountain peaks above, Elias found his mind calming, and as the anxiety eased it left behind a faint sense of assurance that all would be right in due time. A gentle smile crossed Eli's face as he looked up through the ringlight to sky above he reassured himself, I'll find my answers in time, since it looks like whatever contract I was privy to won't take place until I reach this evolution anyways.

Besides, I need to focus on what I can first. Eli turned back to the notice screen before him while trying to contain his glee with a more stoic and serious expression. Scrolling to the end he was able to piece together a timeline for the notices, muting when he was in the cave before resuming audibility after the monsters left.

He realized those clinking metallic chimes that had been startling him all day must have come from this system, and the sudden clarity in his vision must have come from the [Eagle's Eye] skill activating. After a bit of fiddling to find the right mental command he was able to bring up his main status page in its own separate window, which led to a whole other series of questions. It's surprisingly game-like.

I imagine most of these are pretty straightforward, but it would be really nice to know what some of these attributes mean. I mean what good is a health bar if you get shot or stabbed? Do bullets just bounce off you or do you bleed anyways? Eli pondered the skeptical thought while eyeing the relevant portion of the display. Eli tensed as his eyes darted back and forth looking for another system box, but after a moment realized none was coming. Are you there? Can you hear me? System? Little Box Guy? Hello? Elias relaxed while reading through the vaguely ominous notice.

It seemed weirdly sentient, still not sure if it is or just a tight lipped, I'll have to try a few things, but first a little orientation is in order. Eli leaned forward in anticipation.
