Isabella and Alexander instantly changed their path. They sprinted toward the right side of the field. Alexander drew a long, shiny silver sword, while Isabella gathered a roaring wave of red fire in her palms. They moved with perfect synchronization, ready to unleash a deadly combination strike on the nearest tower. Ken leaned against his stone pillar, letting out a loud, highly dramatic yawn.
"You guys are doing way too much running," Ken mumbled to himself.
"Are you dancing or fighting? Because your choreography is terrible." He lazily pointed his index finger again.
"Pew. Pew." Two more tiny cyan bullets zipped silently across the grassy field. The first bullet tapped Alexander right on the knee just as he was swinging his silver sword. Instantly, the swordsman was teleported three feet to the right. His powerful, sweeping sword strike hit absolutely nothing but empty air. The momentum of the missed swing spun him around in a clumsy, totally ungraceful circle. The second bullet tapped Isabella on the shoulder right as she threw her roaring fire. She popped three feet backward.
Her massive wave of flames missed the stone tower entirely, washing harmlessly over a pile of rocks Zinia had created earlier. The 15th Unit's perfect, data-driven assault was falling apart into humiliating, disjointed chaos.
"What is happening?!" Isabella shrieked, looking down at her boots in total panic.
"The ground is shifting! We are missing our targets!" Elma stood near the center of the field, watching the enemy servants stumble and miss. She couldn't help it. A massive, totally genuine smile broke across her face. She quickly looked over her shoulder at Ken.
"It... it was just a fluke," Elma stammered, trying to sound strict, though her face was entirely pink. She bit her lower lip, secretly incredibly impressed.
"He is just making them slip around. It isn't a real combat skill." Laxmi threw her head back and laughed loudly.
"Who cares if it is a real skill?! It is absolutely hilarious! Look at them! They look like a bunch of confused chickens!" With the 15th Unit completely disoriented and their offensive rhythm entirely shattered, Sayma and Zinia wasted absolutely no time.
"Take advantage of the openings!" Sayma commanded, pushing her glasses up with a confident smile. She threw her hands forward.
"Absolute Hexagon!" Brilliant, glowing golden honeycomb barriers snapped into place all around the blue stone towers, securing them under layers of unbreakable light. Zinia stomped her boots onto the grass, pulling up thick, solid walls of rock to fortify the gaps between Sayma's barriers. In less than a minute, the 13th Unit's side of the field was turned into an absolute, impenetrable fortress. Prince Hades stood on his side of the arena, his pale face finally showing a crack of genuine emotion.
His eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. His flawless, mathematical plan was crumbling right in front of his eyes. This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
"Adrian!" Hades ordered sharply, his voice carrying a rare tone of frustration.
"Recalculate the variables! Find the source of the displacement and eliminate it!"
"We are trying, Your Highness!" Adrian yelled back, looking frantically around the field.
"But the interference is completely silent! There is no magical signature to track!" Ken was still slouching against his pillar, looking incredibly bored. He just kept firing his tiny finger guns whenever an enemy got too close to a tower.
"Pew," Ken said lazily. A servant trying to throw a lightning bolt suddenly popped three feet into the air and landed face-first in the mud.
"Pew," Ken mumbled, scratching his nose with his other hand. A servant swinging a heavy mace was instantly shifted backward, causing him to smash his weapon directly into his own teammate's shield.
"Ouch," Ken commented, wincing playfully.
"That definitely looked like it hurt. You guys really need to communicate better. Communication is key to a good team." The five-minute timer on the giant broadcast screen was ticking down rapidly. 1: 00. 0: 45. 0: 30. The 15th Unit was completely desperate. They threw everything they had at the towers. They launched massive fireballs, explosive energy bullets, and high-speed sword strikes.
But every single time they tried to execute a clean, perfect attack, a tiny cyan bullet tapped them, sending them teleporting into the dirt or completely missing their targets. They couldn't land a single hit. The golden barriers and rock walls stayed totally untouched. Up in the broadcasting booth, the sports anchors were absolutely losing their minds.
"I do not believe what I am seeing, Bob!" Sarah screamed into her microphone, her eyes wide with shock.
"The 15th Unit looks completely lost! Their legendary precision is totally gone! They are swinging at empty air!"
"It is absolute chaos, Sarah!" Bob yelled back, pulling at his hair.
"Prince Hades's servants cannot seem to find their footing! And look at the 13th Unit! They aren't even breaking a sweat! Their defense is an absolute brick wall!" 1. 1. 8.
"Push through!" Adrian screamed, desperation ruining his cold attitude.
"Break just one tower!" But it was no use. Ken fired one last cyan spark, popping Adrian himself three feet to the left just as the vanguard leader tried to cast a final spell. Adrian tripped over his own robes and crashed onto the grass. BZZZZZT! The loud, blaring buzzer echoed through the entire stadium. The giant digital clock hit 0: 00. The massive crowd in the grandstands erupted into a sheer, deafening roar of absolute disbelief.
People were jumping out of their seats, throwing their hands into the air, screaming in pure amazement.
"Round two is over!" Bob the anchor roared through the speakers.
"And you are not going to believe the score! The 15th Unit fails to destroy a single tower! Not one! The score remains three to zero! The 13th Unit has successfully pitched a perfect defensive shutout!" Naomi turned around and pumped her fist into the air, a massive, victorious smile on her face.
"Yes! We did it!" Laxmi high-fived Zinia, laughing triumphantly.
"That was too easy! They didn't even touch the shields!" Ken dropped his hand back into his pocket. He pushed himself off the stone pillar and slouched his shoulders, letting out another long, dramatic yawn. He looked at the frustrated, angry faces of the 15th Unit across the field and gave them a tiny, goofy wave.
"Man, playing defense is pretty boring," Ken complained loudly to his team.
"All I did was stand here. Can we get some chairs out here for the next round? I am seriously considering taking a nap." Elma walked over to him. She crossed her arms, trying to look strict, but her face was totally pink and she had a small, undeniable smile on her lips.
"You are an absolute idiot, Ken. But... good job. You were highly annoying today."
"I aim to please," Ken grinned happily. The 13th Unit gathered together, feeling an incredible surge of confidence. They had completely broken the rhythm of the perfectionist Prince. But the match was not over yet, and across the field, the enraged 15th Unit was already preparing to change their entire strategy to deal with the slouching boy who had ruined their flawless math.
BZZZZZT!
