As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a magical girl. Monsters never attacked Earth. No portals opened spewing out demons, no alien invasion rained from the sky. When magical girls arrived anyway, the only enemy they found to face was each other. Fleeing an abusive home and a shattered relationship, Gabrielle Harper suddenly finds her greatest wish made into reality. She takes to her new world of double lives, drugs, and violence like a fish to water, thriving in both of her personas. But she’s still only a small fish, and the ocean is full of sharks. As she discovers a thirst for more than just survival, a thirst to carve out a kingdom of her own, she’ll learn that no weapon is more dangerous than trust. The Gravity of the Situation is a slow-burn magical girl crime drama exploring what happens when great power doesn’t come with great responsibility. Major inspirations for the story include Worm, Breaking Bad, and the excellent Madoka Magica fanfic To The Stars. Content warning: This story deals with serious real-world issues including (but not limited to) child abuse, homophobia, racism, sexual violence (only implied, never depicted), and drug use/addiction. I’ve done my best to handle everything maturely and with the weight it deserves, but for anyone who’s sensitive to any of those topics, there are likely to be moments that make you uncomfortable. Please proceed with caution. Updates weekly on Saturdays. Can also be read on Sufficient Velocity .

Ren Akiyama was diagnosed Quirkless at four years old. The doctors were wrong. His Quirk does not explode, burn, freeze, erase, or shine. It does not make him a prodigy. It does not save him from pain. It remembers damage. Every injury Ren survives can become a small adaptation, every scar a lesson written into his body. But growth comes slowly, painfully, and never without cost. Armed with fragmented memories of a future he cannot fully trust, Ren enters U.A. through General Studies after failing to reach the Hero Course. From the wrong side of the classroom door, he watches Izuku Midoriya receive a miracle, Bakugo carve his path with raw talent, and Shinso rage against a system that judges people before they ever get to prove themselves. Ren has no miracle. Only preparation. Only scars. And when the disasters he half-remembers begin to arrive, he will have to decide whether becoming a hero is worth turning his own body into the battlefield.

The cabbage was supposed to be forty percent off in the supermarket. Instead, a towering, multi-limbed nightmare tore through the produce aisle, screaming about cosmic supremacy and shattering the fluorescent lights. Deeply annoyed by the threat to his grocery budget, Saitama, as usual, ended the crisis with a single, unceremonious punch. He didn't expect the impact to tear open the fabric of reality. Now, he is stranded in a strange world where the moon is shattered, the local currency is useless, and black monsters called "Grimm" roam the wilderness. To make matters worse, the people here fight using bizarre spiritual shields and unique superpowers called "Aura" and "Semblances", concepts that mean absolutely nothing to a guy who just did a lot of push-ups.

Labels. Everyone has one. They can be nice, they can be mean. They can be horribly inaccurate. Usually, they don’t really matter anyway. But to 16-year-old Tiff VanDyne, they’re kind of a big worry. Especially for a quiet, plain Jane girl like her just trying to make it through high school without touring the inside of a locker, in a world filled with superheroes and supervillains, and everything in between. Strange rifts open randomly, and unspeakable terrors threaten to pour out unless Delvers cleanse them from within. Upside? After your sweet 16, you awaken to the System. You get a shot at superpowers . Awesome, right? Not to Tiff. So when her System finally comes online and it reads ‘Supervillain’, Tiff’s the furthest thing from prepared for the wild twist her life is about to take. Less a ‘dog-kicker’ and more a ‘puppy-petter’, Tiff’s gotta learn to adapt to a host of new expectations and experiences, like it or lump it. But since she’s already been labeled as a Supervillain…luckily for Tiff, she gets to define what that means. Sure, she’ll have to corral some of the rowdier types in the city thanks to her new, oh-so-wicked position, but that doesn’t mean a girl can’t have some fun anyway, and maybe even do a little good if she’s clever about it. As the old saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover. It might just surprise you! What To Expect: -Updates Mondays and Fridays, 8am PST -No romance. -Slow Burn -Slice of Life. Not focused on fight scenes or action. -My writing style uses a lot of words. You'd know by the end of the prologue if this will bug you. A young man, plagued by an ongoing streak of bad luck that has persisted throughout his life, starts to find a reason to live in another world each time he sleeps. The NIGHTREALM . A vast and seemingly unending world of quaint towns and unforgiving gods. But although unforgiving gods can spawn and die like weeds in spring, the world is not in danger; a futuristic megacity the size of a continent could be destroyed in an afternoon, while a fantasy medieval village in the mountains would simply go about its days. The Nightrealm is an impossibly vast place; oceans that dwarf planets and entire worlds dot the world, and mega-continents of unfathomable dimensions sprawl the Nightrealm infinitely. Between millions of miles of untamed wilderness, space, ocean, or lands where nature bends in impossible ways for the sake of it, hovels, villages, towns, cities, countries, and nations form to match its unbelievable scale. As for the randomness and the logic that the nightrealm presents, its inhabitants are not helpless to its maw. There are Aspirants, people who have worked hard to stake their claim against the world. To firmly grasp the rules of reality and bend them using their will. And using their will as a foothold, they can strive for greater power, like magic. Then there are Dreamers. In their fight against the reality of the world, only the ones furthest from sanity have the audacity to shatter reality and impose their perfect world in its place. Our main character, June, is a nightwalker. An uncommon type of person who drifts between the mundane and night realms. When he first woke up, he was brought into a warzone. A war against a single god. A war that was inconsequential in the splendor of the Nightrealm.

Samantha Pearsson was supposed to have it all. All the powers, all the knowledge, all the skill, and an entire team of similarly superpowered androids to back up what should’ve been the heroic career to define a century. Just as her creator intended. Unfortunately for Sam, a freak earthquake put a quick end to that. What possessed her idiot creator – a man with the power to build androids, not underground bunkers – to build his laboratory in the middle of nowhere, under loose forest soil, right next to a fault line? Samantha didn’t know, but what she did know was that in that decision, his dreams and her destiny died a quick, inglorious and (for him at least) painful death. Unfortunately for the earthquake, Sam was still alive! Sure, she only got one measly little power, a fragmented and corrupted database, no skills whatsoever and a skeleton of a personality, but so what? From her understanding, people have started with less (as babies) and if they could become heroes, why not her? As long as no one finds out she’s an android, of course.

Cass never knew she could stop time until a man pointed a gun at her grandma. In her world, one in a thousand people get super powers after experiencing a life or death situation. Cass had her chance years ago, but nothing came of it. Or so she thought. Her whole life, everyone treated her like a zero with no ability to get powers; turned out, she just needed to save someone first. Unwilling to follow the typical super route, she decides to fight crime on her own, even if it is against the law. Unfortunately, she has no fighting experience, barely understands how to use her power, and is constantly under threat of being found out. When every new use of her power brings her close to disaster, Cass is forced to do the unthinkable: seek out the help of others to learn to fight. But a mad scientist is turning her city into a battleground and the government is searching every corner of her neighborhood to find the secret vigilante they know is out there. Cass must decide what matters more: keeping her secret or saving the city- maybe even the world. What to expect: Slow but steady power progression, System tied to heroics and villainy, frequent action, coming of age, sarcastic MC, and witty banter. What not to expect: Overpowered MC, Harem. Warning: Violence and darker tones present. Release Schedule: New chapters will be posted every Monday and Friday.

Heroism is Herculean. So the government's plan is to put it on payroll. Everything's tied to a budget, the costumes were chosen by a PR agent, and the team was the cheapest set of young superhumans available. Protecting the public turns out, to however, be more grit and wit than logistics and paperwork. Leo Holt is the latest and final member of the team. They hired him after he was arrested for breaking the legs of the governor's son. He was given the choice of the team or supermax. He picked the team. He doesn't like the colors. He hates his hero name. He hates the word "Synergy" even though the team's leader loves it. Though what he's hating the most is how much it's working. Leo's abnormally strong, in a fashion no one's been able to understand. A woman with ten doctorates, the entire budget of the government's judicial branch for superhuman laws, nor Leo himself has been able to figure it out. He gets by well enough, especially since his team's more than well-aware of their own powers. And they need to be, as the city they live in is under threat from a tree-worshipping ecoterrorist cult, armed with strange magic and firepower. Word has it they're making some kind of throne. Now, Leo needs to keep his shit together and save the day, or he'll be dealing with worse than a supermax prison. What to expect: ‣ A tactically minded, reformed antihero who struggles with sentimentality. ‣ Progression based on training, logistics, and learning from prior encounters, instead of stats. ‣ A wide and unpredictable world that'd fit in any cape comics, with magic, mutants, mad science, and more. ‣ Both tactical match-ups and horribly violent brawls against supervillains ‣ A morally questionable government tl;dr: Super-strong antihero gets drafted into government superhero work, and is slowly but surely becoming a real deal superhero. Updates daily. Please make sure to rate and follow if it interests you.

The baron's adopted son is an alien. He fell from the sky as a baby, and he can't use magic like the rest of them can. But he sure can break it. Mountains, too, if he forgets to be careful. Raised by medieval nobles, thirteen-year-old Enel believes strength is responsibility. So when war takes the people of his home, he leaves it for the very first time to bring them back. After all, what else would a noble do? He expected monsters. The Kingdom of Aldwyn wasn't expecting him. BOOK 1 IS FULLY WRITTEN. Daily chapters will be uploaded to Royal Road! WHAT TO EXPECT: A Superman-like MC in a medieval cultivation fantasy world. This is an emotional progression fantasy. While Enel begins physically overpowered, his alien abilities awaken gradually throughout the story, often before he understands or can control them. His greatest growth, however, isn't just in power, but in his understanding of duty, governance, and a world far more complicated than the one he was told. NOTE: The MC is thirteen and incredibly sheltered. He is not an adult in a child's body. He is sincere, a little naive, and loving but his morality is absolute and black-and-white.
